How To Win The Lottery

First and foremost, let's just get this out of the way.  In order to win the lottery or any other game of chance you must lay your money down and buy a ticket.  That alone is the single biggest secret on how to win the lottery.  You'll never win anything if you don't play, obviously.

Now, besides buying the ticket is there anything else we can do to increase our chances of winning the lottery?  In a way, yes.  But ultimately if you don't believe you have any chance of winning then you won't, and please do us all a favor and don't play.  Because even though the odds might not be that good, there are still odds.  Which means someone must win, and people do, everyday.  All over the world people are constantly winning jackpots of hundreds of thousands ($100,000) to millions ($1,000,000) of dollars, or equivalent currency.

Psychology of a Lottery Winner

A lot of people play, however, and many of them don't win.  Many people play games of chance with a preconceived notion that they're bound to lose because all they think about is the odds.  This brings me to my second point on how to win the lottery and that is what I'd call the psychological factor.  Some might call it that or possibly intuition, sixth sense, perception, luck, law of attraction, good vibrations, premonitions, dreams, power of thought, etc.  What all these things boil down to is essentially to make your states of mind and how you feel to be good, lucky, trusting, and allowing.

People often point to studies, of which there are many, that show how a positive mindset does indeed influence a persons surroundings.  But I don't need to point to any study to know this to be true for myself as I've experienced it many times over, and continue to experience it many times over as I'm sure many of you have as well.  Personal experience, which is the only experience we truly know, tells us that our state of mind is crucial for what and how we experience what we do.

The point to all this and what I've gathered on the subject is that you must genuinely feel unattached to the outcome (winning the lottery) and yet also feel good about winning or the thought of having won.  It's paradoxical in a way.  You may have a strong desire to win the lottery, which is good, but you must also be willing and able to let it go as well.  Letting go of the desire, where you no longer care if you get it or not, will then allow you to accept it.

This can be very hard for some and very easy for others.  The beauty of truly not caring if you win the lottery or not is that it really won't matter to you if and when you win or don't win.  So essentially you win no matter what because of your state of mind.

Now I'm going to offer up some practical, common sense tips on how to better your odds ever so slightly. Many of them are really more about avoiding common mistakes people make when picking their own numbers. You may have heard some of these before but it's worth reminding.

#1 Balance Your Picks

What do I mean by this?  Make sure your picks have some sense of balance.  Don't pick 1,2,3,4,5,6.  Or 2,4,6,8,10,12.  Or 5,10,15,20,25,30.  Or all low numbers.  Or all high numbers.  Or all evens.  Or all odds.  Give your picks an actual shot at winning.  Winning lottery numbers almost never show up as these kinds of extreme situations.

It's a random drawing, so in essence we should expect to see a random assortment of numbers drawn, not combinations that we obviously know are rare or extreme.  This brings me to point two which will seem to be the exact opposite of this point.

#2 Throw A Curveball

Although I just told you not to pick strange or unrealistic sets of numbers, I'm now going to tell you to do just a bit of that.  While it's true that extreme combinations of numbers hardly ever show up, "strange" things do indeed happen all the time.  Things such as two numbers being drawn consecutively (7,8), or a number that was drawn last time being drawn again, or even two numbers being drawn again from the previous draw.

You may also see whole decades of numbers (such as 20's) drawn in bunches or not drawn at all.  In fact, it's often quite common for a set or two of decades to be left out of a draw completely.  Keep this in mind when picking your numbers and maybe throw one number in there at random.

#3 Many Winning Numbers Have Appeared Recently

Strange but true, many times the winning numbers in any game can be found amongst the numbers that were drawn fairly recently.  Often times you will find that 75% of the winning numbers are from numbers that were drawn in the last 11 drawings, specifically in regards to a 6/49 game.  Keep that in mind when deciding which numbers to select.  Your states lottery website can be a great resource for checking on the most recent winning numbers, plus which numbers have hit most frequently and least frequently (there are also other, more highly detailed websites which I will go over in another post).

This website, run by a fellow named Ion Saliu is loaded with all kinds of information and free lottery software that will keep you busy for hours.  He explores not only the phenomenon of winning numbers being recent ones but all kinds of other facets of how to win the lottery and the best strategies to employ for greater success.
